Mechanically reprogrammable Pancharatnam–Berry metasurface for microwaves

Metasurfaces have enabled the realization of several optical functionalities over an ultrathin platform, fostering exciting field flat optics. Traditional metasurfaces are achieved by arranging a layout static meta-atoms to imprint desired operation on impinging wavefront, but their functionality cannot be altered. Reconfigurability and programmability next important step broaden impact, adding customized on-demand in which each meta-atom can individually reprogrammed. We demonstrate mechanical metasurface platform with controllable rotation at level, implement continuous Pancharatnam–Berry phase control circularly polarized microwaves. As proof-of-concept experiments, we metalensing, focused vortex beam generation, holographic imaging same template, exhibiting versatility superior performance. Such dynamic electromagnetic waves using single, low-cost paves avenue towards practical applications, driving reprogrammable intelligent for variety applications.
